To Wanganui Sailing Club Members
Newsletter one 2023/2024
Hi
As you all now know, I have once again been elected as Commodore, which I am happy to do for the two-year term.
Attached is this season's program and things to note are as follows.
- Starting times
All sailors must be at the club one hour before start time as this is when the decision is made whether to sail or not according to numbers wishing to sail, rescue boat manning and wind conditions. If you are not there don’t complain that sailing is cancelled due to lack of sailors. - Training
We have a Learn to Sail in September and another in February which are a three-day training program. We need all members to help with this as these people will be paying for the course and we need to deliver a top-of-the-line training program. - Following on for the Learn to Sail we have put in Saturday sailing on the midday tides with the aim to encourage both new members and any others that want to just go for a fun sail maybe two up or just cruising round the river, or further training, make use of this if you can.
- Door code
A new code has been set in the downstairs clubhouse door which is 4823. This will change each season. - Rescue boats
We will always have two boats on the water.
There has been a roster drawn up for rescue boat duty for the Sunday series only. We have drawn names and the lucky ones have been allocated a Sunday. The unlucky ones are on the program as backup.
On the day we want both rescue boats in the water. There will be the person from the roster on rescue one with a volunteer he can find doing the starts. Mitchell Thomas Shawn’s son is prepared to drive Rescue 2 and so after the start the volunteer can transfer to help on Rescue 2 until the next start. If you are unable to attend on your day, it is up to you to arrange to swap with someone.
During the other weekends we will be looking for volunteers. If you are free, please put your hand upand pick a weekend and let the club captain know. - Sailing instructions
Sailing instructions and rules will be sent soon. They are currently being upgraded.
More information to follow.
Happy sailing and get that winter maintenance done!!!!!!!!
Regards
Stewart Thomas
